Launch a new Mobile Health Clinic service for hard-to-reach communities in the UK, delivered from a vehicle specially adapted for medical use and managed by a team of volunteer doc…
MOAS believes that no one deserves to die at sea. Therefore we provide specialist and professional search and rescue services in the world’s most dangerous sea migration routes to mitigate the loss of human life at sea.
Project objectives and activities
MOAS operates search and rescue activities using its specially equipped vessels, RHIBS and rescue launches, drones capabilities, search and rescue personnel, post-rescue care team and clinic and much more. MOAS has been operational since August 2014 and since then has saved almost 12,000 men, women and children from the Central Mediterranean.
Now MOAS is looking to expand with an Aegean operation due to launch before the end of the year,as well as a South East Asian mission planned for the beginning of 2016 alongside the regular Central Mediterranean route. Our objective is both to extend regular operations and to achieve a geographical and capability expansion where the needs are greatest.
No matter the motivation, those desperate enough to engage in extremely dangerous crossings on unseaworthy vessels should not lose their lives in the attempt. Our sole objective is to rescue those in danger of dying at sea as they flee poverty, persecution, violence, oppression and exploitation.
We aim, through this campaign, to raise a €25,000 contribution towards our upcoming missions. Your donations can buy:
• 10 Euros- Infant pack (baby food, wipes, nappies) • 15 Euros- 2 x Blankets • 20 Euros- 1 x Life Jacket • 50 Euros- 1 x Emergency Kit (life jacket, hot meal, clean clothes, water etc) • 100 Euros- 1 x crew member/ day • 250 Euros- Emergency kit for a family • 500 Euros- Feeds a whole boat at max capacity • 7500 Euros- Price for a day (i.e. costs incurred for one day at sea, including the charter of the boat, crew, fuel, and rescue costs.
The outcomes from the MOAS missions include:
• Monitoring and surveillance on the world’s deadliest sea migrations routes • Provision of rescue capabilities for those in danger on unseaworthy vessels • Distribution of emergency packs where needed (including life jacket, water, food, blanket etc) • The provision of post-rescue care in the form of emergency medical and psychosocial pre-disembarkation • Ultimate goal is the easement of suffering and mitigationof loss of human life at sea
MOAS was established by entrepreneurial philanthropists Christopher and Regina Catrambone who funded the initial 60 day mission in 2014 as a proof of concept that civil society and private actors can take action in the world’s humanitarian crises. In 2015 fundraising activists, private companies, high net worth donors, civil society and fellow NGOs from across the globe have fundraised and donated to keep the operations afloat.
The MOAS team is made up of highly skilled and experience professionals from various backgrounds including the military, international development, journalism, politics and business, in addition to the on-board crew consisting of specialist search and rescue personnel, medics and much more.
